A Dream Track Comes to Life at the University of South Dakota

After nearly 40 years without an outdoor track and field facility, the University of South Dakota now has an outdoor track unmatched by many in their conference and the Midwest. Beynon Sports and USD recently completed a new outdoor track & field complex that will leave competing programs in awe.

The new venue features a nine-lane, 400-meter, NCAA-Certified BSS 2000 track surface including competition areas for the pole vault, long jump, shot put, discus, hammer throw, javelin and triple jump all viewable from the grandstands.

The technology within the BSS 2000 surface is just as impressive as the student-athletes that will compete and train on the new Beynon surface. Beynon facilitated the installation of an in-ground timing system and timing terminal at the finish line to automatically calculate interval and race times. Located opposite of the complexes bleachers acting as a 10th lane, is a 120 meter incline and decline training feature. USD will be one of only two facilities in the US to have such a training tool.

The full pour Beynon surface is considered as one of the largest and most important track surfaces in the Upper Midwest. The University of South Dakota officials chose Beynon Sports’ revolutionary BSS 2000 system with the proprietary Hobart texture for their new complex after a comprehensive analysis of the potential sports surfaces. Regarded as the ultimate edge in performance, the Olympic-caliber BSS 2000 system is IAAF certified, offers athletes maximum energy return and is backed by Beynon’s unmatched warranty and reputation for superior customer service. They (Beynon) helped us not only build our track but plan & design our new facility. We now have a surface that we can be proud of for decades to come.”

Beynon Sports is currently the surface of choice for the University of Wisconsin, the University of Kansas, the University of Iowa and over 150 Collegiate, High School, and community facilities in the Upper Midwest of the United States.
