Beynon Chosen to Replace 45 Year Old Floor

With the help of New Balance ®, the University of Maine’s Memorial Fieldhouse will be getting a much needed facelift. Beynon Sports has been awarded the privilege to restore the Memorial Fieldhouse and return its 45 year old polyurethane floor back to athletic excellence.

With the help of a 5 million dollar gift from New Balance ® which will help fund a series of the University of Maine’s programs and initiatives, they will undertake the 15 million dollar project to restore its current flooring with Beynon Sports’ BSS 1000 full pour polyurethane system. This surface allows athletes to perform at their highest level while training or in competition. It is durable enough to resist the roughest weather and the toughest competition and requires no advanced maintenance. With its proven longevity and ability to endure constant abuse, the BSS 1000 was a perfect fit for the Memorial Fieldhouse. Situated as one of the northernmost Universities, the facility offers athletes the opportunity to train during the long Maine winters. Alongside the new flooring, Beynon Sports improved design of the Fieldhouse will now showcase a banked turn on one end to offer superior training on the track.

This Flagship University for the state of Maine is home to the DIV I Black Bears Men & Woman track teams whom hope these new installations will bring glory back to their school. It has been nearly 20 years since the Black Bears have hoisted a championship. The last time was back in 1995 when the Men’s track team won the American East Conference title. With a superior competition and training facility, it shouldn’t be long before they are champions once more.

The Black Bears also share the facility with local athletes as the Memorial Fieldhouse is home to multiple High School competitions during the year through the Eastern Maine Indoor Track League. For most, being able to compete on the University of Maine’s tracks is their first exposure to the University and leads to eventual enrollment.

Having witnessed the endurance of a polyurethane floor for over 45 years, the University of Maine isn’t worried about their new installations durability. Beynon Sports is proud to restore the Fieldhouse of this storied university.
