Every summer, Beynon Sports’ crews work around the clock to complete hundreds of projects that are installed simultaneously across the country. Some projects are complete tear-out replacements, some are resurfacings and some are new construction facilities.
In 2016, Beynon Sports was privileged to be a part of Roanoke College’s development of the brand new 155,000-square-foot Cregger Center, which will open this fall and feature a new 200-meter indoor track, additional classrooms, meeting spaces, a multi-sport basketball arena and performance gym with a 2,500-seat capacity. The facility also includes a fitness center, an athletic training room and event seating space for 3,500 spectators.
Beynon’s BSS 1000 sports surfacing system, with the exclusive Hobart Texture, covers the entire 55,000 indoor sport floor area, with a three color layout that highlights the infield, the track and the outfield area.
Specifically designed with indoor track and field events as the primary function, the new facility’s flooring system is tailored to meet the demands of a top track and field venue. The Hobart surface provides the highest level of performance demanded by athletes and coaching staff alike. Field events-- including long jump, pole vault and throw sectors -- are included on the infield area. Beynon’s specialized Hobart Texture™ was engineered to eliminate the EPDM granule migration found in traditional embedded track systems and, unlike rubber sheet goods, is coated to protect against staining.
A six lane, 200-meter oval -- with an 8 lane sprint straight for 60-meter events -- enables Roanoke to host future indoor NCAA events.
Sharing the infield are basketball, tennis and volleyball courts -- also utilizing Beynon Sport’s multi-sport BSS 1000 surface; giving the new facility the multifunctional capability to host regional tournaments and intramural sports events.
The unveiling of the Cregger Center brings academics, athletics, recreation and community engagement under one roof. The facility will also serve the larger Roanoke Valley community, hosting academic, cultural and athletic events, and become a flagship for the Roanoke experience.
