Oh Canada! The University of Guelph is ready to compete with other International powerhouses of Track and Field as they announced a new stadium project that will utilize the revolutionary BSS 2000 track and field surface to replace the antiquated cinder running track.
Dave Scott-Thomas, Head Coach of the University of Guelph’s Track and Field team spearheaded a 10-day fundraising effort to raise the monies to have an eight (8) lane, Olympic Caliber track added to the renovation plans for Alumni Stadium. Coach Scott-Thomas is also the creator of the most successful running club in Canada, the Speed River Track and Field Club, for students as well as local runners.
After viewing the success of Eugene, Oregon, the City of Guelph sees the enormous potential that lies in being branded as the running capital of Canada. The BSS 2000, which is the first of its kind in Canada, is a full-depth Olympic caliber track system that will provide the resilient response and maximum energy return needed to propel Guelph athletes to record shattering times and attract international competitions.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing the same surface that legendary Eugene has to Guelph, the first BSS 2000 track in Canada. I and my team can’t wait to set foot on it for our first workout and to begin hosting meets and establishing Guelph as a destination for world-class results,” said Coach Scott-Thomas.
Beynon and their Canadian installers, Playteck Enterprises, pride themselves on not only providing state-of-the-art running surfaces that enable athletes to shatter records, but also on their industry leading customer service.
“We had the opportunity to go after whatever surface we wanted and the most important people to get input from were elite athletes. When I approached our international-class team about what tracks they most enjoyed training and competing on, the answers were consistent, and so was the surface....Beynon BSS 2000. When I spoke to coaches who were based on the Beynon surface, they were enthusiastic not only about the quality of the track, but also about the quality of the company and its service” said Coach Scott-Thomas.
“We are ecstatic and honored that the University of Guelph selected Beynon Sports for such a historic project” said Drew Beynon, Chief Operating Officer of Beynon Sports. “This represents a great partnership and we are pleased that Guelph will be the first BSS 2000 surface in Canada and our fourth IAAF Class II certified surface in Canada installed by Playteck Enterprises.”
