Chico State University Upgrades Track Surface to Beynon Sports

This summer, Chico State University renovated its track surface with Beynon’s BSS 2000 Resurfacing System in preparation of hosting the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference Championships.

Both Chico State’s Men’s and Women’s track & field programs are considered powerhouses in the CCAA Conference. The Men’s program have won 12 conference championships since 2000 and 13 straight Cross Country championships. Chico’s Women’s program have won 5 straight conference championships and 12 cross country championships since 2000.

Both Chico State’s men’s head coach, Oliver Hanf and women’s Head Coach, Robert Nooney were recently recognized as the 2016 CCAA track coaches of the year.

Still, hosting the CCAA conference Championship was not always an option. The previous track surface was extremely hard and unforgiving on the runners’ legs for daily training. Chico’s goal was to provide athletes with a track surface that was safe for the repetition of daily workouts as well as fast on race day.

“Track & Field is very much alive inside our stadium,” says coach Robert Nooney. “The upgrades will positively impact our sport and all visiting student-athletes. We're looking forward to getting our feet on the new surface.”

“We are thrilled to have the resurfaced track and runways and eager to put it to use!” adds Coach Oliver Hanf. “The 2017 season awaits!”

With the addition of this Olympic caliber track, Chico State has the opportunity to elevate its already impressive program and bring the track community together to safely set new records.

“We’re proud to be part of the Wildcats team,” says Drew Beynon, Chief Operating Officer at Beynon Sports. "Beynon is honored to provide a safe and fast running surface for the athletes at Chico State.”
