Could Justin Gatlin Have Broken the 100 Meter American Record?

At last week’s U.S. Track and Field Championships, SFGate.com reported that Justin Gatlin thought that if he would have been racing, he might have run 9.6 seconds on the “super-fast” Hayward Field track; breaking Tyson Gay’s American record of 9.69.

It’s all speculation though; Gatlin didn’t compete in the 100 as he has an automatic bye to the worlds due to his 2014 Diamond League title.

Gatlin did run a stunning 19.92 in the 200, recording the fourth-fastest time in the first round of a 200!

Gatlin wasn’t the only participate burning up the Beynon track surface at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR ; Allyson Felix ran a 50.19 seconds at the women’s 400, Matthew Centrowit dominated the 1,500 with a time of 3:37.25 and Isiah Young ran a 19.99 in the men’s 200, 0.07 behind Gatlin.

Beynon Sports has been the trusted surface of the University of Oregon at Hayward Field since 2007 and is the track surface of choice at high profile track and field venues across the United States such as Oregon State University, University of Texas San Antonio, the University of Kansas’ Rock Chalk Park, the SPIRE Institute and over 2,000 other esteemed NCAA and elite high school facilities.
