Cutting Edge Track Featured at “Nike + Run Club House of Track” Locally Built by Beynon Sports

January 14, 2016, Tualatin, Oregon - It’s that fast. In both construction time and running speed. And records - will likely - be broken on it in March.

Beynon Sports' latest track - a 200 meter, indoor, banked track - is both a vision and a mission. It is a movable, regulation track that was built to anchor several high-profile events being staged in the Rose City as Portland becomes the center of the Track & Field world, in March.

How this track - and preliminary events came to be - involves many partners, including the track maker, Beynon Sports, based in Tualatin, Oregon.

Without a doubt, Beynon has engineered what is expected to be one of the fastest tracks in the world. The lightning-fast, state-of-the-art polyurethane surface created by Beynon is the same as infamous Hayward Field at University of Oregon, also a Beynon track. The innovation of this track is critical to the upcoming USATF Indoor Championships, which will be held in Portland in March at the Oregon Convention Center.

In early January a temporary venue opened to showcase the track to world-class running athletes and the public. And, over the next month, a series of high-performance, development and community meets will be staged at what TrackTown USA and Nike has dubbed the "Nike + Run Club House of Track;" a facility put together in a vintage warehouse along Portland's Northwest Front Avenue. The biggest names in track and field will utilize the track during Friday and Saturday night speed trials. The track was commissioned by multiple partners in this unlikely warehouse space through a series of opportunities that expanded to what became, essentially, a 3-month indoor Track & Field “festival” in Portland.

The TrackTown venue was originally selected as a temporary construction site for the high-speed track, which in late February, will be disassembled and moved to the Oregon Convention Center where it will hold the USATF Indoor Championships.

“We’re proud of our relationship with TrackTown USA and Hayward Field and are excited to bring the same energy, track technology and partnerships to Portland for the upcoming events, especially the USATF indoor championships," said John Beynon, Founder and President of Beynon Sports Surfaces. “Oregon is an important epicenter for Track & Field talent and leadership.”

Crews began installing the track in October. The track was constructed in 28 days. It weighs 2,000 tons and covers over 40,000 square feet.
