Edited transcript of Andee Bouwhuis, Athletic Director at Deseret Peak High School, Cooper Buchhammer, Head Football Coach at Deseret Peak High School, and Michael Garcia, Construction Manager, Tooele County School District, discussing Tarkett Sports surfacing solutions.

Andee Bouwhuis (AB): Tooele is basically on the other side of the mountain from Salt Lake City.

Cooper Buchhammer (CB): It's a small area, but it's definitely grown quite a bit.

AB: We have roughly 1,100 students currently in grades 9 through 11.

Michael Garcia (MG): It's the first new high school in this county in 16 years.

AB: Deseret Peak was basically a new school build.

CB: Brand new school, brand new everything. The building, the stadium, everything.

AB: We were listed in MaxPreps as a top 10 new build in the nation this year, which was a huge accolade to our architect, obviously, but also to the companies who built the facilities.

The Tarkett products that we have are the FieldTurf sports field, the Beynon track, and the Renner tennis courts.

MG: The biggest priority was making sure we were done in time to have sports here for the school's first year. There's a lot of firsts with this school, and we wanted to make sure that they got off on the right foot with a good sports experience.

We opened the school this August. Most of the track and sports fields were installed about this time last year. They were able to meet their schedules. Everything was completed on time, and they turned over a great product for us.

CB: It's the first turf field in Tooele County, so our athletes and our students have been able to utilize it every single day. And even our PE classes have been able to use it, so it's been an awesome space.

AB: Having the ability to play on turf has helped all of our athletes be able to contend a little bit better within the state of Utah, where most fields are turf fields. In the future, with six courts, it'll allow us to be able to host regional events as well as invitationals from around the state of Utah.

MG: FieldTurf has been great with answering questions and helping make sure that we understand how to care for the field to make sure it can be a long-lasting field for us.

AB: It's less maintenance in terms of having to replace the grass year after year and seed it. This is just maintained on a weekly basis.

CB: You don't have to walk out and mark it with field paint, right? It's there, sitting free every day.

In the winter months, it allows me, as a football coach, to bring my kids out here after school. Say, with grass, we wouldn't be able to do that. The snow's been melting. It's all wet and muddy. We got torrential downpours, what, two weeks ago? And nothing happened with this. We were able to come out the next day and carry on.

AB: The kids love it. When the field was first installed, we were still in an active construction zone, and we had people jumping the fence or coming in through construction entrances to get access to the turf field.

CB: Every team that we had in here, they've loved it. Not just the stadium itself, but the turf.

Just walking on the turf and playing on the turf. We went and played at some places that definitely did not have very good turf, and they come in here, and they've loved the turf. It's nice to come here every single day and be able to call it our own.

MG: Partnering with Tarket Sports has been great. They've made my job as a construction manager easy, and I recommend using them on any sports facility. This project shows what can happen when good teams come together and make great things happen.

CB: I've never seen anything in Utah that's anything like it. So, our students and our staff are pretty fortunate to have it.
