When the nation’s best NCAA track and field athletes return to campus this fall, they’ll will have a few surprises awaiting them. Many attended the Olympic Trials and -- in a few cases -- the Olympic Games in Brazil.
In an effort to maintain their competitive edge, four prominent, premier-caliber NCAA track and field programs have chosen this summer as the right time to upgrade their facilities to a state-of-the-art Beynon track surface.
The University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, Utah State University and University of Nevada Reno, all sent athletes to the Olympic Trials and are upgrading their track facilities in 2016. Both Tennessee and Mississippi have student athletes representing Team USA at the 2016 games in Brazil.
OLYMPIC CALIBER TRACKS FOR OLYMPIC CALIBER ATHLETES
School may still be out for the summer, but Beynon Sports has been busy completing these, and other NCAA university track facilities all across the U.S. - working with some of the best athletic programs in the country.
Replicating the high performance surface of University of Oregon’s iconic Hayward Field track -- home of the 2016 Olympic Trials -- these University programs are investing in an ongoing level of training for their athletes.
Connie Price-Smith, current head coach for the women’s U.S. Olympic track team, Mississippi’s head coach and four-time U.S. Olympian, knows her team needs a training surface that matches the level of athletes she’s training.
Moving forward, she sees Beynon as a critical contributor to the continued success and safety of Mississippi’s program.
“I came from a school that had upgraded to a Beynon track, so when I found out we were installing a Beynon track at Mississippi, I was thrilled,” says Price-Smith. “We had a Mondo surface before and the Beynon track was a great training track and a fast competitive track; we‘re excited to get on it!”
Each of the four new Beynon tracks ensures maximum energy return while preventing injuries as athletes train day in day out.
A TRACK TO MATCH EVERY SCHOOL’S NEEDS
Each track features Beynon’s latest technology and suits the unique needs of each school. All of the tracks showcase unmatched durability and performance, including the University of Mississippi’s BSS 2000 and the University of Nevada Reno’s BSS 1000 13mm encapsulated full pour track surface.
Nevada also upgraded the new field event facility with a red BSS 300 13mm embedded sandwich track system. The existing tennis courts and track field events were demolished and reconfigured. Beynon also surfaced the new javelin runway, high jump pad, long jump runway and pole vault runway.
Utah State University’s Ralph Maughan Track Stadium - with beautiful 360-degree mountain views – is now equipped with a hyper-speed track. Utah’s athletes will now be training on its freshly resurfaced track with encapsulated finish and top coat.
All surfaces showcase customized team colors. The University of Tennessee’s BSS 2000 surface sports Volunteer “orange and grey” lanes with Hobart texture. And the University of Nevada Reno’s Mackay stadium now sports “grey with blue” 400m relay exchange zones.
With the addition of these state-of-the-art surfaces, all four schools will be ready to train athletes, day in and out, host the next regional competition, or - perhaps - future Olympic Trials.
