Track Town Canada officially made its debut this past weekend at the 2014 Edmonton International Track Classic. Ranked top three (3) in North America by All-Athletics, the EITC is Canada’s premier Track and Field competition. Justin Gatlin, Aaron Brown, Derek Drouin, LaShawn Merritt, Wallace Spearmon, Luguelin Santos & Warren Weir were only a few big names who headlined the impressive 2014 lineup.
“Ever seen Star Trek? You know when they go warp speed and everything gets blurry? Well that’s what it feels like.” Said Justin Gatlin after being asked how it feels to run a 10.05 (100)m.
Gatlin wasn’t the only athlete to feel the speed on the new surface at the University of Alberta. Four (4) NTL records and one (1) Canadian Open Record were set this past weekend, along with seventeen (17) IAAF A standards and eleven (11) IAAF B standards.
EITC’s athletes competed on the newly renovated Beynon Sports’ BSS 1000 full pour surface. Its bio-engineered force reduction layer integrates very fine SBR rubber granules with environmentally friendly polyurethane to create an impermeable shock-absorbing cushion. All while providing an unmatched feeling underfoot; the surface showcases unique green and gold alternating color lanes. Built for speed, the track at UA delivered impressive times at race day.
Jamaican Olympian and World Championship silver medalist Warren Weir shared his love for the track on twitter by posting “@athleticscanada loving it” after being asked how he liked the surface at Foote Field.
Impressive results for the track’s first national appearance since the completion of the new surface.
