Olympians set to battle it out in Edmonton

Set the compass north! Recently deemed as “TrackTown Canada”, the city of Edmonton is preparing for their first major event of the year. Regarded as one of the most prestigious events in competitive track and field, the Edmonton International Track Classic will be taking place on July 5th.

Once again, the EITC will showcase an impressive lineup of athletes. All eyes are sure to be on famous American sprinter Justin Gatlin, Canadian Olympian Derek Drouin and U.S. Olympic gold medalist Frencena McCorory.

At an EITC announcement, meet director Peter Ogilvie stated enthusiastically “This is one of the biggest announcements made in the history of the Edmonton International Track Classic. With these stars and Jamaican Warren Weir, who we announced last week, there’s no question in my mind that we will have bigger stars than last year’s meet and I never thought I would be saying that. With these great athletes and more to come, the EITC will live up to its international reputation of being TrackTown Canada.”

EITC’s athletes will be competing on the newly renovated Beynon Sports surface at the University of Alberta. Its bio-engineered force reduction layer integrates very fine SBR rubber granules with environmentally friendly polyurethane to create an impermeable shock-absorbing cushion. All while providing an unmatched feeling underfoot; the surface showcases unique green and gold interchanging color lanes. Built for speed, the track at UA should deliver some impressive times come race day.

A Beynon track and Olympic athletes…Should make for an impressive show.
