This autumn, visitors to Linfield College’s prestigious leafy campus - located in Oregon’s wine country - will certainly notice the bold, new, purple and cardinal-colored track. It’s an impressive centerpiece; a symbol of speed, sport and investment in the student athletes and community of McMinnville.
Following a summer full of Olympic track & field excitement, Linfield unveiled the state-of-the-art track; boasting the same quality and performance characteristics of some of the top NCAA track and field programs around the nation. Beynon’s BSS 2000 Resurfacing System covered the aged weathered track over the summer break.
The unique and vibrant colored surface includes purple exchange zones contrasted with a Beynon Red EPDM top coat.
The refurbished oval surrounds Linfield’s iconic football field, Maxwell Field. The Wildcat football team has the longest streak of winning seasons in all levels of college football, now at 60 years, and holds four National Championship Titles. The football field has served as host for 16 NCAA Division III football playoff events since 2004 and the track was the site of the 2005 and 2011 Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships.
Small College. Powerful Performances
Linfield is a giant among small, high-caliber athletic programs. Their football team is highly celebrated, and the school’s track & field program produces equally stellar individuals.
Counting on a batch of talented veterans, including three all-Americans, and some versatile newcomers, Linfield expects to make headway in the Northwest Conference standings this year. Dallas Edge is perhaps the biggest name on the women’s side. A five-time NCAA qualifier and a 2015 All-American, Edge looks to recapture the 100-meter hurdle title at the NWC Championships and hopefully add another scoring finish in the open 100.
On the men's team, senior Jake Mihelich is a two-time national champion in the 400 and an All-American in the 200. He also holds the conference meet record in the 400 and is a three-time conference champion in the 400 and once in the 200.
“The surface we train and compete on has a direct impact on the health and performances of our student-athletes,” said Travis Olson, Director of Linfield’s Cross Country & Track and Field Program. “This new surface will benefit our team and the Linfield community for many years to come and I’m really looking forward to using it this upcoming season.”
Heart of a Community
With a community that supports their teams with all their hearts, Linfield is excited to give back with community access to the track: “The long-term benefits of a refreshed track surface for the Linfield community are immeasurable,” said Kelly J. Bird, Linfield’s Sports Information Director. “In addition to looking fantastic, the track is going to provide improved cushioning for our student-athletes and others who use the facility for personal fitness.”
Adaptable Performance
“This highlights Beynon’s ability to meet the needs of any school - no matter what their size or needs are,” said Beynon’s West Coast Vice President, Rob Gloeckner. “We believe in the power of the small school track programs and are always excited work with a school that takes pride in providing the best and investing in its students, athletes and community.”
