Mere months after the installation of the new Beynon Track at Cornell’s historic Barton Hall, records are already starting to fall. Senior James Gowans recently broke a 43-year-old track record in the mile by posting a 4:02.94.
FROM PLANE HANGAR TO TRACK SHOWCASE
Beynon and Cornell, longtime partners, have made several minor improvements over the years to the sub-floor and surface in the iconic World War I hangar. In late 2016, a bigger project team was brought in to fully remediate the deteriorating floor with a completely new base, plus a cutting edge Beynon Track system that would offer long-term durability.
TRACK SYSTEM CHOICE OF TOP TEAMS
Hailed to be ideal for safe daily training and ultra-fast for race day, Beynon surfaces are showcased at nearby indoor track and field venues such as Yale University, Boston University, University of Maine and over 100 other esteemed NCAA and elite high school indoor facilities nationally.
The finished Beynon track allows athletes to perform at their highest levels, in both training and competition. Beynon’s bioengineered force reduction layer integrates fine SBR rubber granules with environmentally friendly polyurethane to create a shock-absorbing cushion.
TIMING OF INSTALLING: CRITICAL FOR ATHLETE SUCCESS
Beynon often works around student and administration schedules in order to accommodate the best timing for all. The Beynon system was installed over Cornell’s winter break and Cornell track and field athletes did not miss a beat before the 2017 indoor season began.
